OECD countries and the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) have agreed new guidelines to help pensions regulators and supervisors improve the way private work-related pension entities, such as pension fund management companies or pension trustees, are managed in order to boost their financial security and performance.

Good Practices in Risk Management of Alternative Investment by Pension Funds

The International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) has released a set of good practices relating to the risk management of alternative investments by pension funds.  The document is directed at pension supervisory authorities to aid them in their assessment of whether the pension funds under their jurisdiction are managing their alternative investments adequately.

IOPS Appoints a New President

On the occasion of the Annual General Meeting on 14th November 2007, the members of IOPS appointed a new President, Mr. Ross Jones, Deputy Chairman of the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (APRA).

Mr Jones succeeds John Ashcroft, from the UK’s Pensions Regulator. Solange Berstein, Superintendent of Pension Funds in Chile, continues to serve as Vice President, and the supervisory authority of India, the PFRDA, was appointed to serve on the Organisation’s Executive Committee.

Beginning with Volume 7 (2008),  the Journal of Pensions Economic and Finance is included in the Thomson/ISI Social Science Citation Index.  In achieving this goal, the Editors have underlined the importance of the Journal’s association with the OECD and the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS). Through this association,  the Journal has become an influential outlet for research on pension issues and is widely circulated to the top academic departments as well as leading regulators, policymakers and international organisations.

IOPS Workshop on Pension Supervision in Africa, Dakar, Senegal, 5-6 February 2008.

The aim of the workshop was to cover selected policy issues and address current challenges and progress achieved in the development of robust and efficient pension supervisory systems in the African region.
