IOPS Appoints a New President

On the occasion of the Annual General Meeting on 14th November 2007, the members of IOPS appointed a new President, Mr. Ross Jones, Deputy Chairman of the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (APRA).

Mr Jones succeeds John Ashcroft, from the UK’s Pensions Regulator. Solange Berstein, Superintendent of Pension Funds in Chile, continues to serve as Vice President, and the supervisory authority of India, the PFRDA, was appointed to serve on the Organisation’s Executive Committee.

IOPS Releases New Working Papers on Effective Pension Supervision

As the proportion of retirement income provided by private pensions becomes increasingly important, the quality and effectiveness of their supervision becomes more and more crucial. The series therefore reviews the nature and effectiveness of new and established pensions supervisory systems, providing examples, experiences and lessons learnt for the benefit of IOPS members and the broader pensions community. Published today, these four working papers highlight a range of challenges to be met in the development of national pension supervisory systems.
 

OECD and IOPS Guidelines on the Licensing of Pension Entities

Following the process of public consultation, the Guidelines on the Licensing of Pension Entities were approved by the IOPS members at the Annual general meeting, held in beijing in November 2007, and by the OECD Working Party on Private Pensions. The Guidelines have been transmitted to the OECD Council for approval.

ISSA Publication on Public Scheme Reserve Funds

AIOS Principles of Pension Regulation and Supervision

The AIOS (Association of Latin American Pension Supervisors) has translated its Principles of Pension Regulation and Supervision into English and prepared a comparison between the AIOS and IOPS standards.

2006 International Conference and Annual Meetings of AIOS

IOPS members were invited to attend the 2006 International Conference and Annual Meetings of AIOS (the International Association of Latin American pension fund supervisors), which were jointly organised by the Association and by the Mexican pension fund supervisor (Consar).

OECD/IOPS Conference on Private Pensions in Latin America

IOPS members were invited to attend the OECD / IOPS conference on Private Pensions in Latin America.  The conference was held on the 29 -30 March 2006 in Santiago, Chile. It was followed by the TC / EC committee meetings on 31 March 2006.

OECD/IOPS Conference on Private Pensions in Asia

from 27-Apr-2005 to 28-Apr-2005

Organised by OECD and IOPS, the key objective of this conference was to provide an international forum for the discussion on specific policy issues and challenges in the implementation of pension reforms in Asia with a particular focus on the reform process in Thailand and on “best practice” regulatory mechanisms used in the OECD countries to ensure efficient and appropriate pension provision under diversified approaches in the design of the retirement schemes.
