Official Visit of the Secretary-General to India (8-9 October 2007)

During his official visit to India, Secretary-General Angel Gurría met with:

  • Mr. Kamal NATH, Minister of Commerce and Industry
  • Mr. Shivshankar MENON, Foreign Secretary
  • Mr. Montek Singh AHLUWALIA, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission

Mr. Gurría also gave a speech at an Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) seminar to launch the first ever OECD Economic Survey of India. Seminar sessions covered:

  • Local perspectives on the OECD Economic Survey of India
  • Reforming India's product and service markets
  • Improving the performance of the Indian labour market
  • Improving the fiscal and financial system

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
