Secretary-General's official visit to Spain (27 November 2006)

During his official visit to Spain, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría met with:

  • His Majesty King Juan CARLOS of Spain
  • Mr. Pedro SOLBES, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance
  • Mr. Miguel Angel MORATINOS, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation
  • Mr. Manuel MARÍN, Speaker of the Cortes (Spanish Parliament)
  • Mr. Joan CLOS, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism
Mr. Gurría also:
  • participated in a press conference with Mr. Miguel Angel MORATINOS
  • delivered a speech on "Spain and the World Economy" during a dinner with Spanish business leaders

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
